GUY SOHOU
Guy is a solo practitioner whose practice focuses primarily in the field of criminal defense, personal injury and insurance litigation.
Guy received his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2004. He ranked on the top one percent nationwide on the Multistate Bar Exam (173 on the MBE).
Armed with both a civil law (law degree from the National University of Cote D’Ivoire) and common law education (J.D. at U.D. Mercy), Guy was perfectly suited for major international law firms.
Rather than embracing the financial comfort that comes with working in a major law firm, Guy, a lifetime human rights activist, chose the less traveled path.
He went to France where he taught as a Visiting Professor of American Law and Comparative Law. He often summarizes his teaching experience as follows: I spent a year in France doing the noble work of dispelling ignorance. It was great!
Upon returning to the U.S., Guy was still not interested in working in “ legal factories” with their dehumanizing “billable hours”.
He decided to start a solo practice. Against the advice of friends and mentors, Guy persevered in his choice. He was fortunate to have Todd Russell Perkins, one of Detroit’s prominent criminal defense lawyers as a mentor. Guy’s office is within the Law offices of T. R. Perkins conveniently located in the Ford Building, in the heart of downtown Detroit.
In less than three years of practice, Guy has been able to establish a thriving legal practice. He has gained the confidence of the City of Detroit and is currently legal counsel to Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Monica Conyers.
Guy is a member of several human rights groups including Amnesty International and Detroit Area Peace with Justice Network. In addition to serving on the board of the Wolverine Bar Association, Guy is also on the board of directors of the Wayne Mediation Center.
